Kudobhta village under Dangarpada panchayat is located 13 km away from the Muribahal block and is the abode for 140 families. Out of these 21 families were selected under the project named ‘Building resilience of migrant households of Muribahal block through sustained livelihoods’ funded by PHF.

Tapiram Majhi aged 35 years was born in Kandha tribe, he has a house but no agricultural land. The only source of income was daily wage labour. Due to this he faced a lot of hardships and was leading a discontent life. Every year the whole family went for migration. And after returning from there he used to work as a labourer in the puffed rice mill of Bangomunda. He earned Rs. 200 rupees per day.

With NYDHEE team approaching the village for implementation of the aforesaid project; Tapiram was selected as one of the beneficiaries. He diligently participated in all the programs of NYDHEE with the strong determination to get secure income generation source for his family. NYDHEE staff organized a village meeting on livelihood in the village and after attending that he learned about entrepreneurship. He requested to NYDHEE staff to adopt a sustainable livelihood option because of the work experience in the puffed rice mill. In the month of August 2022, he received support of Rs. 14 000 from NYDHEE.

After getting the monetary support he set up a puffed rice mill. Everyday puffed rice was prepared and sold in the neighbouring villages. Gradually more and more customers joined. After starting the business for a month, all the traders started coming to Tapiram's puffed rice mill instead of selling directly. The accounted sale quantity has increased multi-fold and earns Rs, 5000 per month. He works as a house builder for 20 days and earns 500 per day as an additional income. Thus his total monthly earning is Rs. 15 000
