Environment & Biodiversity

Environment refers to soil, water, air, forest, trees and animal. Good and healthy environment reinforce our society, nation, economy, indeed our very existence. We immensely depend upon our soil, water, air and forest for our basic needs like food, cloth and shelter. Environment gives up innumerable benefits for survival of human being and bio-diversity. Both environment and bio-diversity are equally important for us. It is our moral obligation and responsibility to revive and rejuvenate our environment and bio-diversity. NYDHEE strives towards conservation and protection of environment and bio-diversity.

NYDHEE throughout its programme awakened people to keep environment healthy and ecofriendly which will support our livelihood. It promotes fodder and forage cultivation for livestock programme to minimize pressure on forest. Livestock can less dependent upon forest. It will support to increase the forest cover which will help our environment and bio-diversity healthy. In similar way, NYDHEE supported for improved cook stove in 40 villages under Mpowered project for minimum use of fuelwood. This cookstove saves fuelwood and ceased secretion of carbon dioxide which was the one of the major causes for global warming and climate change. Due to introduction of bio sand filter thorough one of its programmes in 60 villages of Jharkhand and West Bengal, people are not using fuelwood for boiling water for drinking purpose. Now people are using water from bio sand filter to quench their thirst.

In agriculture intervention, NYDHEE promotes organic cultivation in more than 100 villages. It requires cow dung, cow urine and different types of local leaves for formulation of organic manure and pesticide which are helpful for environment. It also promotes local variety of climate resilient seeds for agriculture which does not require chemical fertilizer. The use of organic manure and pesticide supports to increase the flora and fauna in our bio-diversity. It also promotes organic kitchen garden in more than 3500 households which is supportive to keep our environment healthy and clean. Like every year, NYDHEE observed World Environment Day on 5th June throughout its project locations. All the team members of NYDHEE pledged to keep up the spirit of environment and biodiversity preservation and protection. On this occasion, the team members plants different types of plants to increase the tree cover and keep our ecosystem and biodiversity more vegetative.
