Smt. Kuni Singh

Smt. Kuni Singh and her husband Shri Suresh Chandra Singh were working as daily wage laborers in a nearby Stone Mining unit ran by a private contractor. They earned Rs. 100 per day from this and ran their family expenses with this money and had no savings for future. Despite of the fact that they had 16 goats with them, they could never realize that this could be a profitable business to reduce their drudgery. Due to lack of technical knowledge they did not vaccinate their goats thus leading to high mortality rate.
With the intervention of NYDHEE, they got timely vaccination for their livestock thus reducing their mortality rate. Also by attending the trainings And orientation on Livestock management, they understood the way to turn this into a successful business. Project staff has regularly guided them on every step thus leading to getting assured livelihood. This gradually led them to trust NYDHEE and extend their cooperation towards the project. They raised Rs. 90,000/- and bought a power tiller. They have started renting this tiller to the villagers and earn additional income. Also they have started Cultivating vegetables on their land and started fishery business.
Presently both Mr. and Mrs. Singh have stopped going for daily wage labour. They earn regular income from livestock business and renting of the tilling machine. Their efforts towards vegetable cultivation and fishery have assured their food security and also are able to sell these in the local market. During our last interaction with them, they confessed owing their better financial situation to the project and support from NYDHEE staff.
