The project aims at improved well-being of 2000 livestock rearers through enhanced socio-economic status through improved package of practices and strengthening existing institutions delivering livelihood support services. The project covers 2000 families in four Gram Panchayats of Bangriposi block in Mayurbhanj district. Out of the four Panchayats NYDHEE has previously implemented a livestock-based livelihood programme in three Panchayats. Under the current project emphasis is given to retain the momentum of the project and best practices of the earlier project. So, from the old project area 500 families who still require assistance aretaken as beneficiaries in addition to 1000 new families. In addition we are also replicating the best practices of the program in an adjacent Gram Panchayat covering 500 new families with a focused intervention.
Apart from this the project intends to continue its support to women producers and entrepreneurs who have formed a Farmer Producer Organisation (FPO) to augment livestock production in the project locations. The women farmers and producers will be provided leadership training, supported to develop business development plans and facilitated to strengthen governance system of the FPO. By the end of the project, the FPO will emerge as a self-managed farmer organisation and on its path towards financial sustainability.
The primary focus of the project being livestock based livelihood generation but also supports capacity building of NYDHEE staff & community to diversify the livelihoods of women farmers for better management of livestock.
